If you are not a resident of one of our seven towns, but are part of a non profit, teacher, librarian or part of community group we may allow you to look for items at our site but you are not able to dispose of anything with us.
Yes. Though we are mostly volunteers, we did close when the state indicated only essential workers/businesses should be open. Upon reopening, we made changes to keep our volunteers and visitors safer. We phased in reopening. We reopened for business outside only and eventually reopened the ReUse building and continue to limit how many people and how long they may stay. We also changed ReUse drop off to be all handled outside rather than having residents bring boxes inside.
There may be fees associated with your items. Please check the Online Fee Search for the most current pricing. We do accept credit cards.
Yes. We accept them at Check in and in the store inside the ReUse building. Please check the Online Fee Search for the most current pricing for dropping off items.
We are not run by the municipalities. We are a non profit that partners with the Department of Conservation and Recreation and 7 towns to provide recycling, reuse and disposal services in the watershed community. The towns do help cover costs. Currently, based on 2021 census numbers, this amounts to approximately $1.72 per household per year. Whether its your taxes or other sources the town uses to cover that varies but it in no way covers all of our expenses to provide services to manage the many tons of materials that pass through our gates in a year.
Most items for reuse are available for free but not all. Items in our Store and some in Fabrics are for purchase. Also available for purchase are compost bins and kitchen scrap buckets. We accept credit cards.
We appreciate your good intentions but there are a few reasons for the fees. Some household items do not find a new home and we are left to dispose of them eventually and incur that cost. Furniture needs to be stored and some transported to other organizations or eventually disposed of. The fees paid help us to cover some of those costs, but not all. You can always take items to other organizations directly to if they will accept it for free first. We do accept credit cards.
Yes, please contact us. We work with several community service organizations supporting families. Household items donated to Wachusett Earthday are made available to these organizations by appointment.
Yes, we would love some extra hands. Please contact us and we'll arrange a date to have you on site.
